The other day I came to know of a dreadful piece of information which I want to make a record of. Scientific researches in engineering and technology are aimed at the noble goal of comforting and soothing our lives but unfortunately enough the price we are paying for it is rather too big!
Many studies and surveys all over the world have been evidently able to show how we are affected by negative outcomes(side effects) of many variant technologies. To day I aim to point out one that is,arguably, causing more menace than all others i.e The Nuclear Reactors.
Electricity is domestic need, some would want to call it a necessity, every country must have enough generation facilities to meet her requirements but the question is that how much and what kinds of payments a community can afford to put-in for this demand? There are more than 400 Nuclear Power Plants operating round the glob. These are supervised by the regulations and standards of IAEA which in its own words is:
“The IAEA works for the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. Its key roles contribute to international peace and security, and to the World’s Millennium Goals for social, economic and environmental development.”
This international body has a huge hierarchy of sub-committees to guarantee the implementation of its standards. The goal of IAEA is with out any doubt appreciable. The truth of the matter,despite the efforts of UN ,IAEA and other agencies, is that the Nuclear Power Plants do fill our environment with radiations which range from LOW to FATAL level of causing an ailment or disease like Cancer! A nuclear plant is mere 30 km away from my home in Pakistan and I ,along with many others, am a witness to an increased no of patients of cancer specially THYROID CANCER. The only visible reason seems to be that plant because the disease was not there before the core was excited.
I have searched several resources and talked to people concerning this matter and I am stoutly able to say that Radiation is indeed a major cause of cancer.The Nuclear Power Plants are continuously poisoning our environment.This ,in other words, means that we are producing electrical energy at a cost far too high,our lives!
The most significantly vicious characteristic of the situation is that the people living in the vicinity of a Nuclear Power generation facility are never informed of this threat by the Government in order to achieve the goals of the dirty design called “National Interest”.The danger zone around A Power Plant is usually defined by identifying two circular radii in which radiation is most liable to cause damage to LOWER and HIGHER levels respectively.In many countries ,including my own, people are living right in the nucleus of first higher level circle.They are dying and that of cancer,accepting it as the GOD”S will, without having any knowledge of what is actually happening to them.
All this is simply unacceptable and intolerable not to talk of honour!.Electricity is Not worth dying for.Is it?Should we,who some how come to know of it,leave it as is?
